Volleyball Falls in Dramatic Fashion

Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Brownson Arena was rocking Saturday night (Oct. 26) but the Colorado Mesa volleyball team fell in dramatic fashion to Metro State in five sets. The match featured 31 ties and nine lead changes over the five sets.

The loss was the first at home for the Mavericks (17-5, 9-4) since Oct. 27, 2012.

Neither team could create much separation in the first set as neither team led by more than three points. CMU won the opening set in extra points 27-25.

The Roadrunners narrowly won set two 25-23 despite the Mavericks hitting a match-high .343.

Metro State easily won the third set 25-13 after Mesa hit a match-low -0.61.

CMU rallied to win the fourth set 25-23 and force a dramatic fifth set.

The Roadrunners jumped out to an early 4-0 lead but the Mavericks would tie the game at eight a piece. The set would feature six match points before Metro won in extra points 20-18.

Eight players finished with 10+ digs in the match, including four Mavericks.

Sunni Rae Baird and Erin Perez each finished with 19 digs to lead CMU. Perez also added 11 kills.

Kricket Adleman finished with 14 digs, and Jordyn Moody added 10 digs to go along with 53 assists.

Melissa Hess hit .383 with 21 kills, while Abbey Ney hit .316 with 16 kills.

Alysa Heath finished with 25 kills for Metro State.

CMU will play at Western State Nov. 1.
