Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. –
Melissa Hess hit .600 with 10 kills and only one error to lead Colorado Mesa to a 3-0 win over UC-Colorado Springs Friday (Oct. 25).
The Mavericks improve to 17-4 overall and 9-3 in the RMAC.
Abby Ney and
Audrey Steinkirchner each finished with a match-high 11 kills for CMU.
Christian Otzen was the fourth Maverick to finish in double digits in kills with 10. She just missed a double-double finishing with nine digs.
Sunni Rae Baird tallied 28 of the Mav's 69 digs on the evening.
Jordyn Moody finished with 40 assists and 13 digs, and
Erin Perez added 13.
UCCS jumped out to an early lead but three straight points by the Mavericks tied the score at 6-6. Neither team would lead by more than three points the rest of the match. With the score tied at 23, the Mavericks blocked a UCCS attack, and
Melissa Hess recorded a kill on the following point to take the set 25-23.
Mesa capitalized on a four point serving streak by
Sunni Rae Baird early in the match and followed up with a six point run behind the serving of
Erin Perez to win the second set 25-18.
The Mavericks won the third set 25-20.
Mesa finished with a 54-34 edge in kills and a 69-54 advantage in digs.
CMU will host Metro State Saturday (Oct. 25).
