Late PK Haunts Mavericks

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Regis Rangers scored on a penalty kick with just under six minutes left in the match to defeat the Colorado Mesa women's soccer team 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at Walker Field.

The Mavericks got on the board early in the match when Monica Carlos scored her third goal of the season. Tayler Franklin crossed in a ball that was headed over to Carlos by Lauryn Lee. The goal came in the third minute of the match and the score would remain that way until after halftime.

Regis evened the match in the 55th minute when Rachel McMahon tallied her third goal of the season.

The Mavericks committed a foul in the box which setup the penalty kick by Regis' Sid Otto who converted to give the Rangers the 2-1 advantage.

Regis outshot Colorado Mesa in the match 18-7 with Maverick goaltender Sarah Schnetzler making eight saves in the match.

Colorado Mesa's record falls to 6-8-0 overall and 5-5-0 in the RMAC while Regis improves to 4-8-1 on the season and 3-6-1 in the RMAC.

The Mavericks will be on the road this week when they take on the Western State Mountaineers on Wednesday in Gunnison.
