Cougars Nip Mavericks in Five Sets

Box Score LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa volleyball team dropped its second match of the weekend falling at Colorado Christian in five sets Saturday (Oct. 19).

Melissa Hess led the Mavericks hitting .545 on the night with a match-high 20 kills. Abby Ney added 15 kills and hit .355.

Christian Otzen chipped in 12 kills, and Jordyn Moody tallied a match-high 59 assists.

Both teams hit .268 in the first set which CCU won 25-22. CMU got out to an early nine point lead on the Cougars to win 25-16. The Mavs won the third set 25-22, but Christian won the fourth 25-21. CCU hit a match-high .500 in the final frame for a 15-5 lead.

Taylor Sturms finished with 19 kills to lead CCU.

CMU finished with an 82-69 edge in digs for the match.

Colorado Mesa (15-4, 7-3) will host Regis Thursday (Oct. 24).
