Box Score DURANGO, Colo. – Colorado Mesa scored early and often in a 42-0 football win at Fort Lewis Saturday (Oct. 19). The shutout was the second this season for the Mavericks who improve to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in league play.
The Mavericks racked up 452 yards of total offense, 23 first downs and were 70-percent (12-17) on third down.
Mesa wasted no time finding the end zone as it scored a touchdown on its first drive of the game.
Aric Kaiser completed a 27-yard pass to
Jake Cimolino, and followed up with a 32-yard touchdown strike to Nate Neville to complete the six play 72-yard drive.
The Mavericks marched 92 yards over 16 plays on their second drive of the game that culminated with a four-yard touchdown run by
Jake Cimolino.
CMU would tack on two more touchdowns before the half was over.
Aric Kaiser connected with Nate Neville for the second time with a 52-yard touchdown pass with 4:04 remaining in the second quarter. Neville became the first CMU player with over 100 yards receiving this season after finishing with 101 yards.
The defense would account for the Mav's final touchdown of the half with 19 seconds remaining.
Marc Palacios forced a fumble that was recovered by
Andrew Hurley and returned 84-yards. Hurley finished with 11 tackles and a team-high three sacks.
Jake Cimolino would score both of the Mavericks touchdowns in the second half. The Fort Bragg, Calif., native finished with 110 yards on 18 carries for a 6.1 yards per carry average.
CMU quarterback
Aric Kaiser completed 18-of-26 passes for 255 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions.
The defense excelled on the day as well holding the Skyhawks to 169 yards of total offense, nine sacks, 11 first downs and only 19-percent (3-16) on third down. CMU held FLC scoreless on all three of its trips into the red zone.
The Mavericks return home Oct. 26 to host Colorado Mines for Homecoming.
