Box Score GOLDEN, Colo. – Colorado Mines had three players finish with 10 or more kills in a 3-1 win over Colorado Mesa Friday (Oct. 18). The loss was the first for the Mavericks (15-4, 9-1) since Sept. 21.
"Mines showed why they are defending RMAC Champions," said head coach
Dave Fleming. "We matched them physically early, but could not maintain it for an entire match."
CMU recorded 16 kills and only three errors and hit .382 to win a close first set 25-23. The Mavericks attack dropped to .238 in the second set but the Orediggers improved to .364 to win the set 25-19. CMU's attack failed to finish above .100 in the last two sets which Mines won 25-16 and 25-14.
Jordyn Moody tallied a double-double for the Mavericks with 38 assists and 11 digs.
Erin Perez finished with 13 kills and
Christian Otzen added 11.
Sunni Rae Baird notched a team-high 17 digs.
Melanie Wannamaker led Mines with a match-high 21 kills.
Mines hit .315 and Mesa was .182 for the match. The Orediggers finished with four service aces and the Mavericks had zero service aces and seven service errors.
Mesa will play at Colorado Christian Saturday (Oct. 19).
