Football Wins Third Straight

Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Senior Jake Edmiston finished with a season-high 23 tackles to lead Colorado Mesa to a 22-17 win over Western New Mexico in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference football action Saturday (Oct. 12).
 
The Mavericks improve to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the league. CMU is 3-0 at home this season and is currently on a three-game winning streak, its first since 2009.
 
Defense was on display early before the Mustangs finally broke the stalemate with a six-yard touchdown run by Abe Macias with just over three minutes remaining in the first half.
 
The Maverick offense answered by scoring on its first two drives of the second half.
 
Tanner Donahue chipped in a 24-yard field goal to cap a 12 play, 74-yard drive by the Mavericks.
 
Ian Juede found the endzone the following drive after catching a 12-yard pass from Aric Kaiser at the 8:45 mark of the third quarter.
 
WNMU capitalized on a CMU fumble with a 47-yard field goal by Josh McIntire. The field goal was the first for the Mustangs this season.
 
The Mavericks regained the lead with a pair of quick touchdowns to close the third quarter.
 
Austin Rodriguez caught a pair of touchdown passes to extend the CMU lead 22-10.
 
Western New Mexico's Ronnell Pompey concluded the scoring with a 15-yard touchdown catch with 3:06 remaining in the contest.
 
The Maverick defense recovered three fumbles and intercepted three passes including a pair by Jordan Price.
 
Jake Cimolino moved into third all-time in career rushing after running for 135 yards on 30 carries (4.5 ypc).
 
Aric Kaiser threw for 140 yards completing 11 passes on 24 attempts with one interception in his first action since the season-opener against Menlo.
 
Colorado Mesa will face Fort Lewis Oct. 19 in Durango.
