Box Score CHADRON, Neb. – The Colorado Mesa volleyball team remained atop the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings with a 3-0 win at Chadron State Friday night (Oct. 11).
The Mavericks (13-2, 6-1) are on a five-match winning streak and have won 15 of their last 18 sets during the streak.
Christian Otzen finished with a match-high 16 kills and hit .268 for CMU to go along with seven digs.
"Christian was hitting really well tonight," said head coach
Dave Fleming.
Jordyn Moody finished with a double-double with 37 assists and 10 digs.
Sunni Rae Baird tallied a match-high 19 digs, and
Erin Perez added 14.
Mesa hit a match-high .263 to win the opening set 25-20. The defense stepped up in the second set holding Chadron to a match-low -.070 to win 25-10. CMU won the third set 25-21.
"Defense was still the key to the win tonight," said Fleming regarding Chadron's .083 attack percentage on the evening. "We are starting to understand what it takes to be a top defensive team."
Jessica Jester finished with eight kills to lead Chadron who falls to 3-13 overall and 0-7 in league play.
Mesa will play at Black Hills State Saturday (Oct. 12).
