Mavs second half outburst sinks Colorado Mines 75-56

Colorado Mesa (9-3, 6-2 RMAC) defeated Colorado School of Mines (7-4, 4-3 RMAC) 75-56 outscoring the Orediggers 53-24 in the second half for back-to-back home wins to open up RMAC action in January.

CMU trailed for the first 33-minutes of the contest before taking their first lead of the game on a layup by Colton Burgon at the 7:05 mark of the second half. The Mavericks went on a 27-9 run to close out the game holding the Orediggers to 25 percent (7-28) shooting in the final 20-minutes.

Jeff Hart led all players with 18 points and a team high seven rebounds. Hart scored 15 points in the second half after scoring three points (free throws) in the first half.

Four Mavericks registered double digits; Hart (18 points), Colton Burgon finished with 14 points, Paul Walter had 11 points and Clay Kame tallied 10 points, six rebounds and four assists off the bench. Kame was 8 of 10 from the foul line, including 8 of 8 in the second half.

CMU shot 72.7 percent in the second half (16-22) after hitting just 6 of 23 field goals (26 percent) in the first half. The Mavericks were 6 of 6 from the 3-point line in the second half and 15 of 21 from the foul line in the final 20 minutes of action. CMU shot 48.9 percent (22-45) for the game from the field.

Colorado Mines led 32-22 at half led by Brian Muller's nine points. Muller was held scoreless in the second half. Luke Meisch led the Orediggers with 17 points.

CMU will travel to CSU-Pueblo and UC-Colorado Springs next weekend in RMAC action. Tip-off for Friday's game at CSUP is slated for 7:30 p.m.
