Colorado Mesa (11-3, 5-1) volleyball beat Western State Colorado (1-13, 0-6) in five sets on Saturday night in Gunnison, edging out the Mountaineers to secure a weekend sweep on the road. CMU defeated #19 Adams State College on Friday in five sets.
CMU won the first two closely contested sets before the Mountaineers bounced back to take set three and four. The Mavericks closed out the fifth and final set recording 11 kills, two errors on 18 attempts. WSCU tallied six kills in the final set.
CMU was paced by Haleigh Higgins' 16 kills, 13 digs and three service aces. Christian Otzen and Melissa Hess each finished with 13 kills and combined for 14 digs. Megan Rush finished with 30 digs and three aces and Jordyn Moody registered 46 assists and finished with nine digs, three block assists and two aces.
CMU remains tied for first place with Adams State in the RMAC West Division. The Mavericks return home on Friday to host Chadron State College at 7 PM. On Saturday CMU will host Black Hills State at 4 PM in Brownson Arena.
