Mavs Beat #19 Adams State Grizzlies in Five Sets

Colorado Mesa volleyball defeated #19 Adams State University (11-2, 4-1 RMAC) in Alamosa on Friday night 3-2 to move in to a first place tie in the RMAC West Division with the Grizzlies. CMU improved to 10-3 overall and 4-1 in league play.

Three Mavericks registered double digit kills led by Christian Otzen's 14 kills while hitting .209. Kelly Regimbal finished with 12 kills and Haleigh Higgins tallied 11 kills.

CMU finished the evening with 17 team blocks, a season high as the Mavericks had nine players register at least one block assist. Rachael Beaty recorded a team high seven block assists and one solo and Higgins and Regimbal had five block assists each. Melissa Hess and Abby Ney had four blocks assists a piece as CMU tallied 30 block assists on the night.

Megan Rush finished with a game-tying 18 digs and two service aces. Jordyn Moody had 33 assists, seven digs and two kills in the five-set match. Krista Ubersox finished with 10 assists, four digs and one kill.

CMU hit .240 as a team with 56 total kills including 19 kills and only one error in the final two sets.

CMU rallied from a 1-2 set deficit to take set four by the score of 25-20. CMU hit .379 in set four with 12 kills, one error on 29 attempts. The Mavericks never trailed in the final set recording seven kills, zero errors on 19 attempts.

CMU will travel to Western State on Saturday for a matchup with the Mountaineers at 7:30 p.m.
