The Colorado Mesa University Women's Soccer team took on the Colorado Christian Cougars on Friday afternoon in Lakewood. The Mavericks came away with a 2-0 victory and remain undefeated on the season at 7-0-2 and 4-0-1 in RMAC matches. The Cougars fell to 2-7-0 and 0-5-0 in the RMAC.
Sophomore
Daniela Salinas got the scoring going early in the match. Salinas scored her second goal of the season in the 4th minute of the match when she caught the goalie off guard and launched a shot from 30 yards out that found the back of the net. The goal gave the Mavericks a 1-0 lead heading to halftime.
The Mavericks got an insurance goal in the 64th minute of the match. Senior
Kelci Crispe scored her third goal of the season when she took a pass from
Kaselyn Butters and found the top left corner of the goal. The goal was the ninth of her career and helped lift the Mavericks to the 2-0 victory.
The Maverick defense and goalkeeper
Sarah Schnetzler picked up there fifth shutout of the season and only allowed the Cougars to take six shots in the match. Schnetzler made four saves.
Colorado Mesa will have a showdown on Sunday for the top spot in the RMAC with the Regis Rangers. The Mavericks and Rangers are currently tied with 13 points, three points ahead of third place Metro State. The Rangers ended Colorado Mesa's season last year when they defeated the Mavericks in the NCAA Playoffs.
