The Colorado Mesa University Women's Soccer team took on the Colorado Christian Cougars on Sunday afternoon at Walker Field. The Mavericks tallied an early second half goal and was able to hold off the Cougars late to take the 2-1 victory. The Mavericks improved their record to 4-0-2 on the season and 1-0-1 in the RMAC while the Cougars fall to 2-4-0 on the season and 0-2-0 in RMAC matches.
Colorado Christian struck first when Megan Gilcrest took a shot from just outside the box and found the top right corner to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
Colorado Mesa got the equalizer a little over ten minutes later.
Kaitlynn Holt scored her second goal of the season when she took a
Kelci Crispe rebound and found the back of the net. The assist was Crispe's third on the season and sixteenth in her career.
The Mavericks scored the game-winner in the 60th minute of the match when Redshirt Freshman
Ashley Wallace scored her first goal of the season and the first in her Colorado Mesa career. Wallace took a pass from
Tayler Franklin and found the right side of the net to give the Mavericks the 2-1 edge.
In the match, the Mavericks outshot the Cougars by a margin of 34-4 and forced the CCU goalkeepers to make 15 saves in the match.
The Mavericks will be back in action on Friday when they take on the New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls at 7:00pm from Walker Field.
