Mavs Sweep Incarnate Word & Dallas Baptist

CMU Finishes 3-1 at Oredigger Classic

Colorado Mesa volleyball (3-1 overall) wrapped up opening weekend of the 2012 season sweeping Incarnate Word 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-21) and Dallas Baptist 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-21) on Saturday at the Oredigger Classic at Colorado School of Mines in Golden.

Casey Ball and Kelly Regimbal tallied eight kills each in the 3-set win over Incarnate Word. Ball added a team high 12 digs in the victory. Jordyn Moody finished with 21 assists, two service aces and three block assists. Megan Rush had three of the Mavs' eight service aces and recorded eight digs. Rush's consistent play earned her a spot on the All-Tournament Team.

Against Dallas Baptist three Mavericks registered double-digit kills led by Christian Otzen's double-double with 16 kills and 10 digs. Otzen hit .353 in three sets. Melissa Hess and Casey Ball had 11 kills each. Jordyn Moody finished with 41 assists, nine digs and two block assists. Megan Rush tallied 21 digs and Tiffany Petersen added 11 digs. CMU had seven service aces led by Abby Ney's career high five aces. Ney finished the 3-set match with six kills, four digs and five blocks.

CMU returns to Brownson Arena on Thursday night in its 2012 home opener, hosting Grand Canyon University at 7 p.m. CMU and Western State Colorado University will co-host the Holiday Inn Crossroads Classic beginning Thursday night at 7 pm through Saturday at Brownson Arena and Hamilton Rec Center.
