Mavericks Sweep Doubleheader from Lopers

            The Colorado Mesa University baseball team swept a doubleheader from the Nebraska-Kearney Lopers at Canyon View Park on Friday afternoon. The Mavericks took game one 24-2 and came from behind in game two to win 12-10. The Mavericks improve their record to 24-9 and 18-5 in the RMAC, while the Lopers drop to 10-21 and 9-14 in RMAC games.

            In game one, Colorado Mesa scored 15 runs in bottom of the first inning on their way to a 24-2 victory. The Mavericks pounded out 23 hits including 11 for extra bases.

            Jared Christensen picked up his 7th win of the season. Christensen pitched 6.0 innings and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, walked 2 and struck out 10. Kris Carlson pitched a scoreless seventh inning, striking out one in relief.

            Justin Rosales finished the game 2-for-3 with 6 RBIs and 2 doubles and Bobby Cozine finished 4-for-5 with 3 RBIs, 3 Rruns scored, and 2 doubles to lead the Maverick offensive attack.

            In the nightcap, the Mavericks trailed 10-4 heading to the bottom of the sixth inning. In the sixth, CMU scored 8 runs on 5 hits and benefitted from one UNK error to pull off the 12-10 victory.

            Cody Lahman picked up the win in relief and improves to 1-1 on the season. Derek Benham pitched a scoreless seventh inning to pick up his 6th save of the season.

             Austin Kaiser and Braden Box both finished the game with 3 hits for Colorado Mesa.

            The Series will conclude with a single nine-inning game tomorrow from Canyon View Park at 10:00am.
