Post-Game Interviews
The Colorado Mesa University baseball team completed a four-game sweep of RMAC rival CSU-Pueblo on Sunday afternoon, winning 6-2. The Mavericks clinched at least a share of the RMAC Regular Season Championship with the win. CMU moved its record to 36-10 on the season and 30-6 in RMAC games, while the ThunderWolves dropped to 25-21 on the year and 22-14 in the RMAC.
The Mavericks got on the board early as leadoff hitter
Colton Little led the game off with a homerun just inside the left field foul pole. The homerun was Little's third of the season.
Later in the first,
Dustin Fackrell stepped to the plate and drilled a three-run homerun to deep left center field to give the Mavericks a 4-0 cushion. For Fackrell, it was his sixth homerun of the season and is tied for the team lead with
Justin Rosales.
CMU tacked on single runs in the third and seventh innings to push the final score to 6-2.
Fackrell, Little, and
Jeff Popick all finished the game with two hits.
Shortstop
Braden Box stole his RMAC leading 27th base of the season. Teammate
Dustin Fackrell moved into second on that list after swiping two bases this afternoon and now sits at 13 on the season.
Lefty
Garrett Carpenter got the start on the bump for CMU and didn't disappoint. Carpenter went 7.0 innings and allowed 2 runs on 7 hits, walked 2 and struck out 9 to pick up his 6th win of the season.
Cody Lahman and
Tim Moore pitched a scoreless 8th and 9th innings to preserve the win.
Next weekend, the regular season will wrap up as the Mavericks will take on the Colorado Mines Orediggers, who are looking to qualify for the RMAC Tournament for the first time since 2008. With one win, the Mavericks will claim the RMAC Regular Season Title outright.
