Mavericks Erupt in 21-5 Win Over Metro

            The Colorado Mesa University Mavericks baseball team erupted for 21 runs in a 21-5 win over Metro State on Sunday afternoon at Suplizio Field. With the win, coupled with CSU-Pueblo and New Mexico Highlands' losses, the Mavericks own a four-game lead in the RMAC standings. Colorado Mesa improves to 32-10 on the season and 26-6 in the RMAC while the Roadrunners fall to 11-27 on the year and 8-24 in the RMAC.

            This is the third time this season the Mavericks scored 20 runs or more in a game and they are 3-0 in those games. Also, when the Mavericks score in double figures they are 12-1 on the season now.

            Garrett Carpenter continued his string of good starts. He went 6.0 innings and allowed one run on 7 hits, walked one and struck out 7. He improved to 5-3 on the season. Three relievers combined to preserve the win for CMU.

            Colton Schoelkopf and Dustin Fackrell each had 3 hits. Schoelkopf finished the game 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs and hit his third homerun of the season.

            Justin Roslaes hit his team-leading 5th homerun of the season while redshirt freshman Bryce Shemer belted his first collegiate homerun in the bottom of the eighth inning.

            Jeff Popick also hit a homerun, his 4th of the season. Popick chipped in 3 RBIs to give him 46 on the season which leads the team.

            The Mavericks will have a showdown with RMAC Rival CSU-Pueblo. Friday night's game will be Little League Family night/Record Attendance night, which will include giveaways that include Rock Jam and Country Jam Tickets, Best Seat in the House, and Book Scholarships.
