The 24th ranked Colorado Mesa baseball team opened up the newly renovated Suplizio Field with a big win over Metro State 19-5. With the win, the Mavericks maintain their two game lead in the RMAC standings and move to 29-10 on the season and 23-6 in the RMAC. The loss drops Metro State to 11-24 and 8-21 in RMAC games.
The game also served as the 'Game of Hope' where proceeds from the game benefit the American Cancer Society. The announced attendance was 2,461.
Nolan Snell got the start for the Mavericks and cruised through the games first 6.0 innings but ran into trouble in the seventh. For the game, Snell went 6.1 innings and allowed 5 runs on 3 hits, walked 7 but did strikeout 11. He is now 8-1 on the season.
Dakota Behr and
Joey Capistran came in relief of Snell and combined to allow just two hits.
Justin Rosales picked up the first hit in the stadium and didnt stop their. He finished the game 3-for-4 with 4 runs scored and 3 RBIs.
Austin Kaiser,
Dustin Fackrell, and
Braden Box also had multi-hit games and every starter had at least one hit for the Mavericks.
For the Roadrunners, they committed 7 errors in the field but were led at the plate by Ty Jacobs' 2-for-5 performance.
The series will continue tomorrow from Suplizio Field with a doubleheader starting at 1:00pm
