The Colorado Mesa baseball team completed the weekend sweep of the Regis Rangers 9-8 on Sunday afternoon at Canyon View Park. The Mavericks scored the winning run on a wild pitch while the Rangers were trying to intentionally walk leftfielder
Jeff Popick. CMU improves their record to 19-7 on the season and 13-3 in the RMAC while the Rangers drop to 10-14 and 5-10 in RMAC games.
Garrett Carpenter got the start and had a rough outing. Carpenter lasted 2.2 innings and allowed 4 runs on 8 hits, walked one and struck out 3. Six pitchers ended up pitching in the game and went a collective 6.1 innings and allowed 4 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits, walked 2 and struck out 3.
Tim Moore was awarded the victory and is now 2-1 on the season.
Dustin Fackrell and
Justin Rosales provided the offense for the Mavericks. Fackrell went 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored, 2 RBIs and hit his first homerun of the season. Rosales went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs, a run scored and hit his second homerun of the season.
With the sweep, the Mavericks move into sole posession of first place in the RMAC with RMAC Rival CSU-Pueblo 2 games back (CMU holds tiebreaker currently with a 3-1 record against CSU-Pueblo). CSU-Pueblo swept New Mexico Highlands this weekend.
Colorado Mesa will be on the road this week against New Mexico Highlands in a series that will have RMAC and Regional implications on the line. Friday's game is slated to begin at 3:00pm in Las Vegas, N.M.
