Box Score The Colorado Mesa University baseball team wrapped up their four game series with the Colorado Mines Orediggers this afternoon at Canyon View Park with an 8-5 win. The Mavericks improved their record to 15-7 on the season and 9-3 in the RMAC to maintain their lead in the division, while the Orediggers dropped to 6-10 overall and 5-7 in the RMAC.
Wind gusts got as high as 50mph and affected the game in the early going as the two teams battled back-and-forth through the first four innings of play. CMU took the lead for good with a three-run fifth inning that put the advantage at 8-4. Mines would add a lone run in the ninth inning to make the game 8-5.
Garrett Carpenter picked up his first win on the season with a complete game effort. Carpenter allowed 5 runs (3 earned) on 9 hits, walked none and struck out 5 while throwing only 102 pitches. He is now 1-3 on the season.
Austin Kaiser provided the big bat in the game going 4-for-4 with 4 RBIs, double and a run scored. In the bottom of the 7th, he got a single to right field and the right fielder made an error on the play which allowed the ball to roll all the way to the wall. Kaiser rounded third base and tried to score. Kaiser tried to dodge the tag, but was called out.
The Mavericks will continue their home stand with a series next weekend against Regis at Canyon View Park. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30pm on Friday.
