Mavericks Fall in Series Finale

Box Score         The Colorado Mesa University baseball team was looking for its first series sweep of the season on Sunday at Rawlings Field in Pueblo, Colo. The sweep is still eluding the Mavericks as they fell 6-5 to the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves but still took the series three games to one. CMU's record falls to 11-5 on the season and 6-2 in the RMAC.

Colorado Mesa trailed 5-4 heading into the ninth inning but got a RBI single from Tamatoa Demello to knot the game at 5-5. CSU-Pueblo got a two-out, bases loaded walk off single to seal the game.

Garrett Carpenter got the start and pitched well. Carpenter went 6.0 innings and allowed 5 runs on 5 hits and struck out 6. Carpenter's lone stat that really hurt were his walks. He walked four and two of them came around to score.

Reliever Kris Carlson took the loss for the Mavericks in relief. He is 0-1 on the season.

Tamatoa Demello provided the spark offensively for CMU. He finished the game 2-for-4 with 2 doubles, 2 RBIs and a run scored. Colton Schoelkopf and Justin Rosales each had two hits for the Mavericks as well.

Colorado Mesa will play a mid-week double header this week against Dixie State. First pitch of the doubleheader Tuesday will be at 1:00pm.
