Box Score 2 The Colorado Mesa University baseball swept a Saturday RMAC doubleheader with CSU-Pueblo. The Mavericks won game one 4-3 before winning the night cap 11-9 in 9 innings.The Mavericks improve to 11-4 on the season and 6-1 in the RMAC while the ThunderWolves dropped to 6-10 and 3-4 in the RMAC.
In the game one, CMU benefitted from 3 CSU-Pueblo errors and scored 4 runs (0 earned) in the first two innings to win 4-3. The ThunderWolves threatened in the 6th inning but couldnt muster enough to overcome the Maverick lead.
Jared Christensen pitched 6.0 innings allowing 3 runs on 6 hits, one walk and struck out 3 to earn his 3rd victory of the season. Christensen is now 3-1 on the year.
Derek Benham pitched a scoreless 7th inning to earn his 4th save of the season.
Jeff Popick delivered a two-run single in the second inning and finished the game 1-for-3, leading Colorado Mesa offensively.
In the night cap,
Jeff Popick's two-run single in the ninth inning broke up a 9-9 tie and gave the Mavericks an 11-9 extra inning victory. The Mavericks trailed a good portion of the game but scored 4 runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 9-8 lead just to see it disappear in the bottom half to force extras.
Dakota Behr picked up his first collegiate win of his career. Behr pitched the final 1.2 innings and allowed one hit and struck out 3 to earn the win.
Freshman
Nate Robertson led the Maverick offensive attack, finishing 2-for-4 with 4 RBIs and a run scored. In the 6th inning, Robertson popped a 3-run homerun to give the Mavericks a lead at the time. The homer was Robertson's first of his young career.
The two teams will wrap up their series with a single nine-inning game tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00pm.
