GRAND JUNCTION – On Monday, the Athletic Training students hosted the first Mr. Maverick in Brownson Arena. Twenty-five male student-athletes from nine teams participated in the inaugural event.
The Mr. Maverick Pageant was judged by six Colorado Mesa (CMU) coaches, administrators, and athletic trainers. They judged in the areas of pick-up lines, swimwear, and talent. The event was emceed by head football coach Russ Martin and former CMU basketball standout Lance Fite (Peoria, AZ).
Wrestler Brayden Humpherys (Layton, Utah), who chugged a gallon milk as his talent, won the crown of Mr. Maverick. Wrestling teammate Dylan Granard (Woodinville, WA) was first runner-up. Track & Field junior Randy Brown earned second runner-up. Baseball starting pitcher Nolan Snell (Albuquerque, N.M.) won Mr. Congeniality.
