Mavericks Late Rally Not Enough, Lose 11-7

            The Colorado Mesa University baseball team dropped the final game of the series 11-7 Sunday at Canyon View Park. UC-San Diego came out and put up 11 runs within the first four innings of the ball game but the Mavericks mounted a come back and tallied 7 runs in the final five innings of the game. The Mavericks had chances in the 7th and 8th innings to cut into the Triton lead but were unable to scratch across enough to take the lead. The Mavericks fall to 5-3 on the season while UCSD improves to 2-6.

            Senior first baseman Dustin Fackrell led a quartet of Mavericks with two hits, finishing 2-for-5 with 2 RBI's. Erik Kozel, who got the start in left field, finished the game with 3 runs scored. Jeff Popick also added 3 RBIs to his season total with a 1-for-3 performance. Popick now has 8 RBIs on the season.

            Garrett Carpenter got the start and took the loss for the Mavericks. Luke Anderson, Zach Harris, and Jeremy Ortiz combined for 6.0 innings of relief, allowing no runs on 6 hits walked 3 and struck out six.

            The Mavericks will take the next two weeks off before entering RMAC play.Colorado Mesa will open the RMAC on the road with a 4-game series against Metro State.
