Mavericks Overwhelm Tritons 14-4

        The Colorado Mesa University baseball had its home opener on Friday at Canyon View Park against the UC - San Diego Tritons. The Mavericks will play at Canyon View Park until the renovation of Suplizio Field is complete. On Friday, CMU outhit the Tritons 18-4 en route to a 14-4 victory.
        The Mavericks jumped out to the early 2-0 lead in the first inning. In the fifth inning, CMU tacked on to its lead, benefitting from 2 UCSD errors and scoring 8 unearned runs to extend its lead to 10-0. The Tritons answered back in the top half of the sixth inning, scoring 4 runs in the inning. But the Mavericks took all four runs back in the bottom half of the eighth to keep the lead at 14-4 when the game ended.
        Junior righty Nolan Snell picked up his second win in as many starts allowing 4 runs on 3 hits, walked 5 and struck out 6. Snell gave way to Tim Moore in the sixth inning and Moore kept the Triton bats at bay. Moore picked up his first save of the season and allowed no runs on one hit, walked 2 and struck out 4 in 3.2 innings of relief.
        Dustin Fackrell paced the Mavericks with the bat going 3-for-5 with 2 RBIs and a run scored. Colton Little and Braden Box had identical lines, each going 3-for-5 with 2 RBIs.
        The Mavericks will be back in action tomorrow at Canyon View Park with a doubleheader (9 inning, 7 inning). First pitch is set for 11:30am (30 minutes earlier than originally scheduled.)
