CMU Opens 2012-13 Season at El Pomar Natatorium

Colorado Mesa women's swimming and diving team opened up the 2012-13 season under new head coach Ron Allen this weekend at the El Pomar Natatorium hosting Division I foe University of Northern Colorado.

Friday evening CMU returning national qualifiers in diving; Amanda Jennings and Savannah Craft finished second and third respectively in the 1 meter dive. Jennings scored 196.00 to finish second behind UNC's Sara Moldenhauer (225.40). Jennings (194.00) and Craft (190.05) placed second and third in the 3 meter competition as Moldenhauer won the 3 meter title with a score of 235.40.

Briana Purkapile finished second in the 50 fly in a time of 29.09. Purkapile and teammates Robyn Meeks, Katie Thompson and Kelly Hogan placed third in the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:55.70. Purkapile, Sydney Miller, Annie Jones and Hogan finished third in the 400 free relay in 3:48.47.

Saturday the Mavericks tallied several second place finishes beginning with the relay team of Purkapile, Samantha Parker, Jones and Hogan in the 200 free relay in a time of 1:44.69. In the 800 free relay, Purkapile, Karlie Wagner, Jillian Hayes and Hogan notched another second place title in a time of 8:40.66.

Purkapile, Hogan and Meeks paced the Mavericks on Saturday with numerous second place finishes. Purkapile was second in the 200 IM (2:17.98) and 100 fly (1:03.64). Hogan finished second in the 500 free (5:26.97) and Meeks posted a time of 1:04.06 in the 100 back and 58.05 in the 100 free for two second place titles.

Danielle Pena, Karlie Wagner and Katie Thompson each placed second in their individual events.

Pena was second in the 200 fly (2:37.40) and Wagner's time of 2:21.36 in the 200 back placed her second in the event.  Thompson swam to a second place in the 200 breast in a time of 2:42.04.

CMU will return to the pool on Saturday, October 13 at Noon to host Colorado School of Mines.
