Box Score
On a beautiful early October afternoon, the Mavericks (13-3, 7-1 RMAC) hosted Black Hills State Yellow Jackets (5-12, 0-8 RMAC) inside Brownson Arena. The Mavericks kept the Yellow Jackets winless in the RMAC after a three set sweep Saturday afternoon (25-19, 25-20, 25-19)
In the first set, the Mavericks looked to have fixed any problems they suffered the night before against Chadron as the Mavs won the first set 25-19. Rachel Beaty and Christian Otzen both posted four kills a piece in the set.
The second set looked to be a walk away for the Mavs as they reached game point with a sizeable lead. The Yellow Jackets began to close in near the end, but thanks to 10 digs by Megan Rush, 23 assists by Jordyn Moody, and 10 kills by Christian Otzen, the Mavs were able to hold on and close out the second set 25-20.
The third set started out with the closest action of the afternoon, with Black Hills State sticking with the Mavs for most of the match. Throughout the third set the Yellow Jackets never gave CMU much breathing room, as they held a strong presence up front at the net. In the end, CMU was able to outlast a solid Yellow Jacket team and hold on for the win, 25-19.
The Mavericks have a week off until their next match, when they host Colorado School of Mines Friday night back inside Brownson Arena. First serve is set for 6 pm.
