The Colorado Mesa University Women's Soccer team was in Alamosa this afternoon for a match with the Adams State Grizzlies. Freshman
Sarah Pope's two goals was enough for the Mavericks to secure a 2-1 victory on the road. The Mavericks improve their record to 8-1-2 on the season and 5-1-1 in the RMAC while Adams State fell to 4-7 and 2-5 in RMAC matches.
Pope's first goal of the match came in the ninth minute of the match. Pope took a rebound off a long free kick from
Kelci Crispe which she put back in to give the Mavericks a 1-0 lead early in the match. Crispe was credited with the assist to bring her career total to 17.
Adams State evened the match in the 65th minute with a goal from Jenna Iwaniec.
Just 1:16 later, Pope answered back with her second goal of the match. Pope took a pass from fellow Freshman
Brittany Halcomb and broke through the defense for her team-leading sixth goal of the season. The goal gave CMU the 2-1 advantage in the match.

Gina Goryoka picked up her first win as a Maverick while making two saves in the match.
Colorado Mesa will have a showdown with the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs Mountain Lions in Colorado Springs on Sunday. The two teams could be playing for either the RMAC lead or second place in the standings pending the other outcomes of today's matches in the RMAC.
