Mavs Sweep Skyhawks in Final Homestand

“The fan support tonight was awesome, it really shows that we may have 27 sports, but we're one team.” Sophomore Middle Melissa Hess said of the fan support at the last home game of the year for the Maverick women's volleyball team.

Tuesday night the Mavericks (14-10, 8-8 RMAC) took on the Ft. Lewis Skyhawks (10-4, 6-10 RMAC). The Mavericks would snap a seven game losing streak to beat the Skyhawks in three straight sets (28-26, 25-14, 25-18).

The first set would go into extra innings. The Mavericks took a strong lead early, but for every step closer the Mavericks came to winning the set, the Skyhawks took two steps. Christian Otzen led the Mavs with four kills in the first set for a 28-26 victory.

The second set for the Mavericks looked different than most of their matches inside Brownson Arena this year. Stretching their lead to ten points at one time, the Mavericks were not affected by the long first set. Scoring early and often, CMU never looked back.  Again it was Christian Otzen leading in kills in the set with seven, while Jordyn Moody had 21 assists. Kelly Regimbal and Abby Ney recorded six kills apiece.

The third set was basically a repeat of the second. It was the Mavericks playing physical up front at the net, leading to a third set win, and sweep on the night.

Kelly Regimbal closed out her last set in Brownson with nine kills. Megan Rush left Brownson with 11 digs.

The Mavericks continue their playoff push on the road for their last three games of the regular season.  Friday night the Mavericks travel to Western New Mexico to take on the Mustangs (13-12, 10-5 RMAC).
