Colorado Mesa volleyball hosted RMAC west division leader, Adams State Grizzlies Saturday afternoon in Brownson Arena. Senior Day for the Mavericks as Rachael Beaty, Kelly Regimbal, Megan Rush and Krista Ubersox were honored prior to the start of the match.

The first set went the way of the Grizzlies, as they jumped out to an early five point lead forcing Coach Fleming to burn a timeout. The two teams stayed close throughout the first set with the Mavericks going on an 8-2 run. ASU led 23-21 and a service ace by Regimbal pulled the Mavs to within 22-23. Despite the strong service ace late in the game, the Mavs fell to the Grizzlies 23-25 in set one.

While the Mavericks had a better start to the second set, they still could not match the persistent attack by the Grizzlies. Adams State continued their solid hitting recording 15 kills and a .379 attack percentage. Letisha Spencer registered five kills to lead ASU to a 25-21 second set victory.

The two teams battled in the third set with six lead changes and 16 ties before the Grizzlies prevailed 25-22 to improve to 19-4 overall and 12-3 in league play. The loss dropped the Mavericks to 13-10 overall and 7-8 in league action.

Kelly Regimbal led the team with 11 kills, while Christian Otzen and Rachael Beaty finished with seven kills each. CMU hit .158 in the three-set match and the Grizzlies finished with a .305 attack percentage.

“We played a lot better tonight and really stepped up our level, but we just played below the level of the team on the other side of the net.” Coach Fleming said.

CMU will host the Ft. Lewis Skyhawks (9-13, 5-9 RMAC) in their last home regular season game Tuesday, October 30 at 7 p.m. in Brownson Arena.
