Colorado Mesa (13-7, 7-5) fell to UC-Colorado Springs (15-6, 10-3) 3-1 in RMAC action on Friday night in Colorado Springs. The Mountain Lions recorded 20 team blocks in the four sets, including 15 block assists by Nikki Kinzer.
CMU took set one from the Mountain Lions 25-23 and led by as many as four points in the second set (15-11) when UCCS went on a 6-2 run to tie the set at 17-17. CMU led 20-19 before the Mountain Lions ran off five straight points for the set (25-20).
Set three went to the Mountain Lions 26-24 with CMU holding the largest lead early in the set at 8-5. The set went back-and-forth before UCCS strung two points together at 24-24 on a kill by Jordan Banich and closed out the set on a CMU attack error.
UCCS closed out the match in set four breaking a 16-16 tie with back-to-back attack errors by CMU and winning the final three points to clinch the victory.
Kelly Regimbal led all players with 16 kills. Haleigh Higgins and Christian Otzen had 10 kills each. Higgins posted a double-double with 19 digs and finished with three blocks and two service aces. Megan Rush tallied a game high 24 digs. Jordyn Moody had 27 assists, 16 digs and four kills in the contest.
UCCS was led by Kinzer's 14 kills and 16 blocks.
CMU will close out the three match road swing at Metro State University on Saturday afternoon in Denver.
