After coming off a tough loss to No. 13th ranked Colorado School of Mines on Friday night, the Mavericks (13-5, 7-3 RMAC) hosted the Cougars (16-5, 7-4 RMAC) of Colorado Christian University Saturday afternoon inside Brownson Arena.  The Mavericks fell to the Cougars three sets to one. (19-25, 23-25, 25-22, 22-25)

The first two sets had each team draw big leads to start the set, only to see those evaporate. The first set saw the Cougars pull away early, the Mavericks looking a little roughed up after their loss to Mines the night before were dormant in the first set.  Kelly Regimbal led the team with only three kills in the first set.

The second set saw the Mavericks come out much stronger, burying the Cougars early on in the set. But just as in the first game, the team that started slow battled back as the set continued. The Maverick who had her best outing on Friday night against Mines, Abby Ney, got her first start Saturday night. Ney had five kills in the set, behind Kelly Regimbal who totaled six kills. Jordyn Moody had 22 assists.

The third set the Mavericks and Cougars went back-and-forth. The third set carried with it a yellow card, followed immediately by red card on Coach Fleming. “It was my first red card in eight years of coaching. I didn't curse, just slapped my clip board,” said Fleming.

The intensity off the bench led the Mavericks to their first and only set win on the night, as they defeated the Cougars 25-22.

The forth and final set the Mavericks and Cougars traded leads on several occasions. CMU stayed with the Cougars till the end, but unfortunately could not close out the fourth set, fall 25-22. Kelly Regimbal and freshman Christian Otzen tied for the most kills, with 13 each. Jordyn Moody finished the match with 46 assists, five digs and four kill.
CMU will hit the road for three games beginning Thursday at Regis University. Friday the Mavs play at UC-Colorado Springs and close out the weekend at Metro State on Saturday.
