Mavs roll past Mountain Lions 75-50

CMU (8-6, 6-4 RMAC) defeated visiting UC-Colorado Springs (6-9, 5-4 RMAC) 75-50 on Saturday night to snap a three-game losing streak and notch its first victory in the 2012 New Year.

CMU held the Mountain Lions to 29 percent (17-59) shooting from the floor, a 45-28 rebound margin and tallied eight blocked shots.

Michael Bear's double-double (18 points, 10 rebounds) led the way for the Mavs. Bear had 12 points and five rebounds in the first half.

Colton Burgon recorded 17 points, six rebounds and two blocked shots off the bench. Landon Vermeer had a career high 10 points and five rebounds. Mike Melillo finished with nine rebounds, six points and four assists. Chandler Burgon had a career high four blocked shots in the contest.

The Mavericks held a 37-32 halftime lead, erasing a Mountain Lion 10 point advantage (23-13) at the 8:49 mark. A 14-4 run tied the game a 27-27 and 10-5 spurt to close out the final four minutes of the half gave CMU a 37-32 halftime advantage.

CMU outscored UCCS 38-18 in the second half, holding the Mountain Lions to six (6-27) second half field goals.

The Mavericks will travel to Western State College on Friday.
