Colorado Mesa University (7-6, 5-4) dropped their third consecutive league game falling to CSU-Pueblo 68-65 at home Saturday night in Brownson Arena.
CSU-P (7-5, 4-4) outscored the Mavericks 41-32 in the second half to erase a 33-27 halftime deficit. The ThunderWolves went on an 18-9 run to open the second half to take a 45-42 lead with 11:39 remaining in regulation. The Mavs tied on a trey by Nate Nelson and the T-Wolves' Arden Dennis answered back with a 3-pointer for a 48-45 lead. CSU-Pueblo would never trail again holding as much as an eight point lead at the 5:12 mark. CMU failed to score a basket during a four minute stretch before a free throw by Mike Melillo pulled the Mavs to within seven points (51-58) with 4:04 left to play.
CMU pulled to within two points twice in the final 1:27 but the T-Wolves hit 4 of 6 free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
Michael Bear led all players with 25 points. Mike Melillo and Nate Nelson each finished with 10 points. Colton Burgon had a game high nine rebounds.
CSU-Pueblo had four players in double figures, led by Arden Dennis' 21 points and seven rebounds.
CMU will host UC-Colorado Springs on Saturday night. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
