CMU (8-8, 6-6 RMAC) men's basketball team fell to No. 12-ranked Colorado School of Mines 66-48 on Saturday night in Golden, CO.
The Orediggers' Trevor Ritchie opened the game with a layup and CMU's Michael Bear answered back with a 3-pointer for a 3-2 lead that ultimately was CMU's only lead of the game. Ritchie's layup on Mines' next possession and a 4-2 lead as CSM never trailed again in the contest. Mines turned five early half CMU turnovers in to an 11 point swing with 7:03 remaining in the first half. CSM held a 31-20 halftime lead.
Colorado Mesa opened the second half on a tip-in by Michael Bear to cut the lead to nine points (22-31). Ritchie answered again for the Orediggers with a steal and a layup and Mines would hold a double digit lead the rest of the way to push their record to 14-2 overall and 10-2 conference mark.
Bear led the Mavericks with 17 points, seven rebounds, four blocked shots and two steals.
CSM's Trevor Ritchie led all players with 20 points. The Orediggers registered 17 offensive rebounds, forced 19 CMU turnovers and shot 92 percent from the foul line.
CMU will look to rebound on Saturday night at Colorado Christian.
