Colorado Mesa Settles for 2-2 Tie With CSU-Pueblo

Box Score         The Colorado Mesa University women's soccer team gave up a two goal lead late in the match and had to settle for a 2-2 tie with the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves in Pueblo, Colo. CSU-Pueblo scored two goals in the final 4 minutes in the match and the two teams played to a scoreless overtime session and the match ended in a tie. CMU's record stalled at 5-4-1 and 4-1-1 in the RMAC while CSU-Pueblo stayed at 4-5-1 and 1-3-1 in RMAC competition.
        Colorado Mesa scored the first goal of the match in the 51st minute. Junior Kaselyn Butters scored her 2nd goal of the season when the CSU-Pueblo goalkeeper knocked down a shot and Butters took the rebound and finished in the open net. Butters' goal gave the Mavericks a 1-0 lead.
        The Mavericks would notch their second goal of the match in the 60th minute of the match. Senior Sara Islas took a through ball and dribbled up and past the goalkeeper to give the Mavericks a 2-0 lead. It was Islas' third goal of the season which ties the team lead for CMU.
        The ThunderWolves struck for their first goal in the 87th minute and their second goal came with only 47 second left in the match.
        On the match, the Mavericks ripped off 32 shots to CSU-Pueblo's 30 and Colorado Mesa made 13 saves to the ThunderWolves 12.
        Colorado Mesa will return home this Sunday for a showdown with nationally ranked Fort Lewis at 1:00pm at Walker Field. Fort Lewis defeated the Mavericks 2-1 on a late goal earlier in the season.
