Colorado Mesa University volleyball team dropped their first RMAC west division game on the road Friday night at Adams State College, 3-0 (26-24, 25-23, 25-17). The loss drops the Mavericks to 3-9 overall and 0-4 in RMAC action.
CMU trailed by five early in set one (5-10) and stormed back to take a 16-14 lead including a run of five consecutive points. CMU held a 20-14 lead and the Grizzlies went on a streak to tie the game at 22-22. Despite a set point in the match, ASC took advantage of a solo block and two CMU errors to close out the set 26-24.
ASC led the entire second set on the way to a 25-23 win. The Grizzlies jumped out to a quick lead (17-11) before the Mavericks went on a run to pull to within three points (20-23). ASC clinched set two on one of Letisha Spencer's nine kills in the match.
Adams State closed out the match taking set three, 25-17, recording 12 kills and a .250 attack percentage.
CMU hit .097 in the match with 32 kills, 21 errors on 113 attempts. Rebecca Sellers and Kelly Regimbal each tallied 8 kills. Antoinette McCormick finished with 7 kills, just one hitting error on 20 attempts. McCormick led the team with 3 block assists.
The Mavericks will host non-conference Black Hills State at 4 p.m. Saturday at Brownson Arena.
Sunday evening at 6 p.m. CMU will host RMAC foe Fort Lewis College.
