Mavericks Sprint Past Grizzlies 3-0

Box Score             The Colorado Mesa University women's soccer team continued its hot streak in a 3-0 win over the Adams State Grizzlies in Alamosa this afternoon. The Mavericks have now won 4 of their past 6 matches and are sitting at 4-4-0 on the season and 3-1-0 in the RMAC. The Grizzlies fell to 4-4-0 and 1-3-0 in RMAC matches.
            The Mavericks got the scoring started early in the match on a Daniela Salinas goal 70 seconds into the match. Salinas launched her goal from just outside the box into the upper right hand part of the goal. It was her second goal of the season and gave CMU a 1-0 lead.
            A little over 12 minutes later, Sara Islas tallied her second goal of the season. Islas took a pass from Salinas and beat the goalkeeper on the left side of the goal. The Maverick lead grew to 2-0.
            Colorado Mesa scored their final goal of the match in the 88th minute. Senior Sophia Whigham headed a ball in after a cross from the right side of the field from Kelci Crispe. The goal was Whigham's second of the year also and gave the Mavericks the decisive 3-0 victory.
            RMAC Defensive Player of the Week Arielle Harris got the start in goal for the Mavericks and kept a clean sheet. Harris made 7 saves and picked up her 4th win of the year and her 3rd shutout of the season.
            Colorado Mesa will travel to Colorado Springs for a bout with the UCCS Mountain Lions on Sunday.
