Season Ends with 4-3 Loss to Lopers

Box Score                 The Mesa State Baseball season came to a halt yesterday with a 4-3 loss to Nebraska-Kearney in ten innings. The Mavericks scored three runs on ten hits and the Lopers tallied four runs on seven hits and committed two errors.

                Nebraska-Kearney struck first in the game. In the bottom of the third, Darren Grace hit a solo homerun to left field to give the Lopers a 1-0 advantage.

                The Mavericks evened things up in the top of the fifth. Ryan Shelton hit a sac fly to right field scoring Ken Evanson on the play.

                Mesa State scored two runs in the top half of the eighth inning on a two-run single by Dustin Fackrell.

                In the bottom half of the ninth inning, the Lopers scored two runs on two bases loaded hit by pitches and with one out Loper Jordan Mitchelhill lifted a ball to left field, with the runner from third tagging on the play, Ryan Shelton made the catch and launched a throw into catcher Colton Schoelkopf in time to get the out at home.

                The Mavericks couldnt muster any offense in the top of the tenth but the Lopers got an RBI single to end the Mavericks run at a return trip to the NCAA World Series.

                Maverick starter Tim Moore pitched well in the game. Moore pitched 8.0 innings and allowed two runs on five hits, walked two and struck out four.

                The Mavericks finished the season 35-21.
