Mavs Pick up Series Win over CSU-Pueblo

                The Mesa State Mavericks baseball team picked up a key series win over the CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves over the weekend. The Mavericks won 3-of-4 games on the weekend over the Thunderwolves and secured the season series over them six games to two. Their record now sits at 27-17 on the season and 24-12 in the RMAC.

 

                In the series opener, a crowd of over 2,500 saw the Thunderwolves defeat the Mavericks 9-4. Mesa State outhit the T-Wolves but stranded ten runners on base.

 

                Colton Schoelkopf led the Mavericks offensively with a 3-for-3 performance with a double and a run scored. Braden Box and Dustin Fackrell both finished with two hits a apeice.

 

                Nolan Snell took the loss for the Mavericks. Snell (5-4) pitched 3.2 innings and allowed four runs on five hits, walked eight and struck out seven. Snell still leads the RMAC in strikeouts with 80.

 

                In game one of Saturday's doubleheader, The Mavericks jumped out to a 5-2 lead heading to the bottom of the seventh. The T-Wolves threatened to tie the game in the inning but Cody Lahman came in and limited the damage to two runs on no hits and stranded the bases loaded to secure his first save.

 

                Greg Anderson went 2-for-4 in the game with two runs scored to lead the Maverick attack.

 

                Lefty Jared Christensen picked up his sixth win of the season, going 6.0 innings and allowed two runs on five hits, walked five and struck out seven. Christensen currently leads the RMAC in ERA at 3.13.

 

                In the nightcap, Mesa State scored single runs in the third, fourth, fifth, and seventh inning to win 4-2.

 

                Colton Schoelkopf finished the game 2-for-4 with a triple, a RBI, and a run scored. The triple was the first of his collegiate career.

 

                Dylan Evans got the start and pitched 4.0 innings and allowed two runs on six hits, walked one and struck out no one to pick up his fifth win of the season. Taylor Hamilton pitched the final three innings of the game to pick up his third save of the season.

 

                In today's series finale, The Mavericks pounded out 18 hits and scored 12 runs in a 12-5 win over the T-Wolves. Seven of the Mavericks nine batters had multiple hits and only one of the Mavericks hits was for extra bases.

 

                Erik Nordine finished the game 4-for-5 with two runs scored and a RBI and Dustin Fackrell went 2-for-6 with 3 RBIs and a run scored.

 

                TIm Moore got the start today and might have pitched his best game as a starter this season. Moore went 7.0 innings and allowed four runs on eight hits, walked one and struck out six. Moore picked up the win and improved his record to 3-2.

 

                The Mavericks have their last regular season series on deck. They will play the Colorado Mines Orediggers at Suplizio Field in two doubleheaders starting on Friday at 3:30pm. Saturday's doubleheader will also be Little League Family Day.
