Maverick Senior Greg Anderson (Tempe, Ariz.) blasted a two run walk off home run in the bottom of the tenth inning gave the Mavericks a 9-7 win and a series sweep of the Metro State Roadrunners. Mesa State is now 6-4 overall and 4-0 in RMAC competition. They are also on a six game winning streak and have not lost since February 13th.
Mesa State fought from behind all day but tied it in the ninth inning on an infield RBI single from Erik Nordine (Grand Junction, Colo.). Nordine scored Braden Box (Twin Falls, Idaho) from third on a ground ball to the shortstop which he beat the throw to first.
The Maverick bullpen gave the team a chance all day. In the end, Kyle Davis (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), Tyler Ehlers (Aurora, Colo.), and Derek Benham (Seattle, Wash.) finished a combined 7.2 innings pitched and allowed one run on three hits, three walks and struck out four. Benham picked up the win and is now 1-0 on the season.
`
Anderson finished his day 3-for-6 with a run scored and three RBIs. Along with his homerun, Greg hit his second double of the season.
Up next for the Mavericks is conference rival CSU-Pueblo. The series kicks off at 4:30pm at Suplizio Field on Friday, March 11. CSU-Pueblo swept Colorado Mines this weekend so the winner of the series will take the edge in the RMAC Mountain Division race.
