Skyhawks Hit Ten Three Pointers in Victory

                Mankato, Minn. ---  The second-seeded Fort Lewis College Skyhawks drilled ten three-point baskets Saturday afternoon en route to a 76-55 victory over Mesa State College in the second game of the 2011 NCAA Central Region tournament held in the Taylor Center on the campus of Minnesota State University.

The game marked the fourth meeting between the two programs this season and the third straight game for Mesa State in which it has had to play FLC.  The Mavericks swept the regular season and now with today's win, Fort Lewis evened the season series at two.

The Skyhwaks shot a blistering 64 percent to in the first half en route to opening a 44-28 halftime advantage. 

Fort Lewis continued the pressure in the second half en route to earning the victory.  The Skyhawks finished the night shooting 52.8 percent from the floor and owned a 30-26 edge on the offensive end. 

Three Skyhawks finished in double-figures led by junior guard Matt Billups 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including 4-of-4 from downtown.   Junior center Matt Morris added 14 points – hitting on all six of his field goal attempts – while senior guard David Kanyinda came off the bench to score 11.

Sophomore center Colton Burgon led the Mavericks with 17 points while Michael Bear added 14. 

Fort Lewis improves to 23-7 with the win while Mesa State finishes its season with an 18-10 record.  The Skyhawks now advance to tomorrows semifinals where they will face Colorado School of Mines at 5 p.m.
