The Mesa State Mavericks pounded out 17 hits en route to a 15-2 win over RMAC foe CSU-Pueblo. The Mavericks improved their record to 7-4 on the season and 5-0 in the RMAC, while CSU-Pueblo fell to 7-5 and 4-1 in RMAC play.
The Mavericks scored in every inning except the eighth inning including three in the third and sixth innings and four in the seventh.
Freshman Colton Schoelkopf (Centralia, Wash.) finished the game 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs. In the bottom 5th inning, Schoelkopf blasted his first collegiate homer down the left field line.
Dustin Fackrell (Taylorsville, Utah) went 3-for-3 with a run scored and six RBIs. Fackrell hit his first home run as a Maverick in the second inning, a solo shot to left field.
Maverick starter Dylan Evans (Farmington, N.M.) pitched 8.0 innings and allowed one run, on five hits, walked two and struck out nine on the night. On the season, Evans is 2-0 with 24 strikeouts and just five walks in 26.2 innings pitched.
The Mavericks and ThunderWolves will continue their series tomorrow afternoon at Suplizio Field. The two teams will play a doubleheader with the first pitch slated for 4:30pm
