Mavs fall to Grizzlies in OT 68-65

Mesa State (17-8, 13-8) was out-scored 8-5 in overtime falling to Adams State (19-6, 15-6) 68-65 in RMAC action Friday night in Brownson Arena.

MSC led by nine points at half (33-24) and led by as many as 13 points (46-33) with 12:34 remaining in regulation. The Grizzlies went on a 14-3 run to pull to within two at the 6:41 mark on a lay-up by Robby Hanzlik. MSC turned the ball over five times during the Grizzlies run. ASC tied the game at 57 with 1:25 remaining on a steal by Deray Wilson and lay-up by Marqus Richards. MSC took a one point lead (58-57) connecting on 1 of 2 free throws. ASC took their first lead of the game on a trey by Wilson (60-58) with 1:05 left. MSC tied the game at 60 on Kalonji Paschal's two free throws with 53 seconds remaining. ASC missed three attempts to break the tie and MSC missed at the foul line, sending the game in to overtime.

In the overtime period the lead changed hands six times and was tied twice before Adams State took the largest lead of the OT period, two points with seven seconds remaining. Hanzlik sealed the victory with two free throws, ending the Mavs five game win streak.

MSC had four players register double digits; Michael Bear and Lance Fite each had 13 points. Jeff Hart finished with 11 and Colton Burgon had 10. Burgon had a team high seven rebounds and two blocked shots.

ASC was led by Deray Wilson's game high 20 points.

MSC will close out the regular season Saturday night against Fort Lewis College.
