The NCAA Women's Soccer National Championship Field of 48 was released tonight and Colorado Mesa University found themselves as the #6 seed in the Central Region. Teams are selected for the tournament by a selection committee which uses certain criteria to determine its field. The Mavericks will take on Regis University for the fourth time this season in the First Round of the tournament. CMU is 2-1 on the season against the Rangers including a 1-0 win on Friday to put them in the RMAC Championship match.
This is the fourth time the Mavericks have qualified for the NCAA Tournament (1997, 1998, 2000) and hold an all-time mark of 2-3. In 2000, the Mavericks lost to Central Oklahoma 1-0 in double overtime. The Mavericks defeated Metro State 3-1 in 1998 and Northern Colorado 1-0 in 1997 for their two wins in the National Tournament.
Colorado Mesa and Regis will square off on Friday in Durango, Colo. at 2 pm. The winner will face 2nd seeded Fort Lewis on Sunday in Durango. Colorado Mines was the #1 seed in the region and will await the winner of Metro State and Minnesota State in Golden, Colo.
