Mavericks Fall in RMAC Championship

Box Score         The Colorado Mesa University women's soccer team had a chance to ensure themselves a spot in next week's NCAA Tournament by winning the RMAC Tournament on Sunday at Regis Match Pitch in Denver. The winner of the RMAC Tournament earns an automatic qualifying spot in the NCAA Tournament. The Mavericks took on the #2 seed Colorado Mines Orediggers for the Tournament Title.
        The Mavericks fell behind in the match midway through the first half and were never able to catch up, dropping the match 2-0. Mines scored a goal in the 20th minute of the match and got an insurance goal in the 87th minute of the match. CMU had a chance for a goal in the 75th minute, Sara Islas' header was ready to find its way into the back of the net but Mines' goalkeeper came in and made the late save.
        Colorado Mesa, who played their 3rd match in 5 days, had four players make the All-Tournament Team. Defenders Sam Burneo and Jessica Kent, Kelly Parkhurst, and goalkeeper Sarah Schnetzler all made the team. Colorado Mines goalkeeper Penny Rogers was named the tournament's most outstanding player.
        The Mavericks will find out their fate tomorrow afternoon at 5:30pm MST. The NCAA will release its field of 48 teams that will vie for the NCAA National Championship, set to be played December 3rd in Pensacola, Fla. You can watch the selection show as it happens on NCAA.com
