CMU falls at home to Adams State

Colorado Mesa (11-17, 6-12 RMAC) volleyball season came to a close Saturday night in a 3-0 (25-27, 20-25, 23-26) loss at home to Co-west division champion Adams State College (18-8, 12-6 RMAC). The Grizzlies and Western New Mexico tied for the division title. CMU needed a victory and a loss by New Mexico Highlands to advance to the RMAC post season tournament.

Haleigh Higgins and Kelly Regimbal each finished with 12 kills. Higgins had eight digs and one block assist. Regimbal tallied three blocks, two service aces and two digs.

Senior Antoinette McCormick closed out her career with seven kills, and a game high five blocks.                  

CMU held a 23-21 lead in set one and a set point (24-23) following an attack error by ASC. The two teams traded points and after the 16th tie of the set (25-25), the Grizzlies closed it out with back-to-back kills by Megan Tapia and Dominique Davis.

In set two the Grizzlies prevailed 25-20 to take a 2-0 set lead. At 12-11 the teams traded the next eight points and neither team held more than a two point advantage until ASC put together four consecutive points and a 24-19 lead. ASC closed out the set two points later on a Davis kill.

The final set had 19 ties and six lead changes before the Grizzlies closed the door on the Mavericks season. Regimbal recorded seven of the Mavs' 12 kills in the third set. ASC's Davis recorded her 12th kill of the game on match point.
