Mavs notch straight set victory over Mountaineers

Antoinette McCormick's game high 14 kills and .355 attack percentage led the Mavericks (7-11, 2-6) to a 3-0 (25-21-, 25-22, 25-22) sweep over visiting Western State College (3-13, 0-8) Friday night at Brownson Arena.

CMU trailed just twice in the three-set match, finishing with 42 kills, 45 digs and three team blocks. The Mountaineers recorded 37 kills, 51 digs and six blocks.

Melissa Hess tallied 12 kills and Haleigh Higgins finished with eight kills and nine digs. McCormick registered five kills in each of the first two sets and finished set three with four kills.

Freshman setter Jordyn Moody had 34 assists and Megan Rush had a game high 18 digs and two of the Mavs' five service aces.

Western State was led by Kallee Cool's eight kills, 12 digs and three blocks.

CMU will host CSU-Pueblo Saturday, 7 p.m. at Brownson Arena.
