Colorado Mesa volleyball fell to CSU-Pueblo 3-1 (18-25, 19-25, 25-13, 15-23) Friday night in Pueblo at Massari Arena. The loss drops the Mavericks to 8-15 overall and 3-10 in RMAC play. The ThunderWolves improve to 11-10 overall, 7-6 in RMAC action and move in to second place in the RMAC West Division standings.
CMU led set 16-14 before the T-Wolves went on a five point run and a 19-16 lead. CSUP closed out the set (25-18) winning the final six points. Set two the T-Wolves took advantage of 14 attack errors by the Mavs on the way to a 25-19 win.
CMU took set three 25-13 racing out to a 14-3 lead. Rebecca Sellers tallied three kills in the set and CMU registered four of its six service aces in the match in set three.
CSUP opened the fourth and final set on a 6-0 run and never trailed on the way to a 25-13 win.
CMU was led by Antoinette McCormick's nine kills. The T-Wolves had two players record double digit kills; Alea Wildman (13) and Bernadette Pitre (12).
CMU finished the four-set match hitting -.021, (33 kills, 36 errors). Megan Rush led the team in digs (17) and Sunni Rae Baird finished with a team high 13 assists.
CMU will travel to Western State Saturday night before returning home to host Western New Mexico and NM Highlands next weekend.
