Colorado Mesa volleyball fell to 5-10 overall and 1-5 in RMAC action Friday night following a 3-1 loss at New Mexico Highlands (21-25, 25-19, 23-25, 23-25).
CMU tallied 53 kills to Highlands' 45 and hit .227 to NMHU's .156 attack percentage yet the Cowgirls prevailed taking the final two sets for the victory.
After splitting the first two sets, NMHU won set three breaking, a 22-22 tie on a kill by Dominique Benton. Highlands pushed the lead to 24-22 on an attack error by CMU. Rebecca Sellers' kill pulled CMU to within one point (23-24), but a service error by the Mavs clinched the set for the Cowgirls.
NMHU took an early lead in set four and held as much as a six point lead (17-11) before CMU went on a 7-1 run to pull to within 18-17. The Mavericks took their first lead of the set (21-20) on a service ace by Antoinette McCormick. NMHU answered back with three consecutive points for a 23-21 advantage. CMU fought off one set point on a kill by Kelly Regimbal (24-23) before the Cowgirls closed out the set and match on a Darian Mullen kill.
Kelly Regimbal led all players with 18 kills and Rebecca Sellers finished the four-set match with 10 kills, five digs and four block assists.
Jordyn Moody finished with 47 assists and five digs. Megan Rush registered 20 digs.
CMU will travel to Silver City, NM for a matchup with Western New Mexico Saturday night.
